London Policing College Driver Training
The London Policing College are currently working with AL Darak Management Consultancy developing an integrated set of training solutions to deliver a world class driver training programme, bespoke to Abu Dhabi, but based on the existing police driver training system used in the UK.
The aim is to provide individual officers with new skills and confidence to carry out their role which will enhance the capability of the Traffic Department to achieve its strategic aims.
Standard Response Course:
This course will look to train officers to a standard where they can respond safely at standard response level to an emergency and make use of any exemptions afforded to them in legislation. It will include several modules: Preparing the vehicle for use, the ability to make progress and show restraint where necessary, the ability to drive to the system of car control as defined in Roadcraft and understanding the key attitudes and behaviours which make a safe driver.

- Advanced Driving Course (Non pursuit)
- Advanced Driving Course (Pursuit)
- Standard Motorcycle Course
- Advanced Motorcycle Course
- Specialist Driver Training Courses – 4x4, Heavy Goods Vehicles, Protection and Escort driving.
- Training of officers to conduct driving tests
The above driver training will be delivered and quality assured by fully qualified ex UK Police driver trainers who bring unrivalled excellence and experience to the training development, specifically Don Smith and Michael Cleary.
Over the last six years Don and Michael have been instrumental in modernising police driver training in the UK. Michael was the Superintendent in charge of roads policing and driver training at the Scottish Police College. Don was the Chief Inspector with responsibility for driver and technical training in the Metropolitan Police in London.
